ella, sri lanka:

After our stunning (but long) train journey from Kandy, we finally made it to Ella late in the afternoon.

Perched on the hillside, Ella is small town know for its amazing views and relaxing vibes. It is also the place to be if you want to get your heart rate up, with lots walks in the surrounding hills. As we had Asher with us we didn't do any massive hikes, but still made it to the top of Little Adams Peak and made our way down to the beautiful Nine Arch Bridge.

I was also really keen to explore the tea plantations and learn more about the whole process that has made Ceylon tea the best in the world, however we happened to be in Ella on New Years day - one of the very few days that the tea factories and plantations are closed. Oops - a bit disappointing, but there's always next time!

Our stay in Ella was short, only being for two nights, however it turned out to be the perfect amount of time for us. It was beautiful and great place to just take in our surrounds after the hustle and bustle of Kandy. By this stage, too, we were getting pretty keen to hit the beach!

next: Hiriketiya and the south coast of Sri Lanka.
